Deniliquin District Soccer Club will hold a second registration day for its 2018 season this Saturday.
The club held its first registration day on Saturday, with plenty of players signing up.
Club secretary Leanne Mulham said while the first registration day was a success, the club was still hoping for more numbers.
‘‘We would prefer everyone wishing to play soccer to register by Saturday so we can make up the teams ready for our season start,’’ she said.
‘‘We do need more players aged 15 and over for our Open competition.
‘‘While we have many of our parents putting on soccer boots, it is a great opportunity for young adults who may not be doing much sport anymore to have bit of fun and fitness.’’
The season will see players divided into grades, with games starting at 9.30am or 10.30am depending on the grade.
The 13 week season will start on Saturday, May 5 at Rotary Park, with a break on July 14 and 21 due to school holidays. Finals will be held on August 25.
Like the previous two seasons, the club hopes to have four Open teams with the first game starting at 11.30am and second game at 12.30pm.
This year, the club will also launch its new Friday night social competition.
‘‘We have had a great response to our new initiative this season which includes a five week Friday night social competition under lights for High School age players,’’ Mulham said.
‘‘Most registrations so far have been keen to play both Friday night and Saturday mornings.
‘‘However we do hope to encourage those High School players who may have commitments on Saturday to consider registering just for the five week Friday night competition.’’
Friday night games will be held on May 11 and 25, June 8 and 22 and July 6 from 6.30pm under lights.
‘‘We are holding an intensive coaching clinic during school holidays from July 9 to 11, with juniors in the morning and seniors in the afternoon,’’ Mulham said.
‘‘We plan to arrange an inter-competition match with Echuca/Moama during the season and hopefully send representative sides off to the Griffith Regional Gala Day in June.
‘‘Our talent coaches Josh Perizzolo and Jacob Hird will be providing skills training sessions on Thursday afternoons from 5pm to 6pm starting May 9.
‘‘As always we need parents to volunteer to be team managers, umpire games, set up grounds, mark lines and work in the canteen.’’
Soccer registration forms can be collected from Intersport Bennett’s in Cressy St. Forms will have a section for you to indicate your preference on how you can help.
