BILL Hipwell sank 26 points to single-handedly destroy Hornets in Grade 5-6-7 division of Basketball Kyabram’s Term Two competition on Monday night.

The diminutive young star scored most of his points where bigger bodies normally dominate — near the ring.

But when you can glide into open space at the right time, and release the ball quickly like Bill can, the size of the opponent is no consequence.

The Wildcats’ winning margin — 32 points — would have been far greater if it were not for the Hornets’ Steven Bassett who was in everything. He scrambled in defence, ran hard in offence and generally made himself a nuisance when his opponent had the ball.

For his ‘never say die’ attitude, Steven is Basketball Kyabram’s Player of the Week.

Sam Marland also had a standout game on the second court of 5-6-7 division. He had 25 points, including a three-point missile, and led Gators to a 43-34 victory over Raptors.

Other Gators’ scorers were Jim Hipwell (14) and Wyatt Sudholtz (4).

Harrison Wigg used his height to great effect to score 18 points for Raptors. Luke McDonald had 10, Bryce Broadhurst 4 and Darcy Shepherd 2.

In 3-4 division, Samual Mongan quickly reached the scoring maximum of 16 points for Hornets and then practiced other areas of his game when he became point guard and distributor.

His all-game effort ensured his team’s unbeaten record remains intact.

The Hornets defeated Wildcats 18-10.

Wildcats’ Logan Green scored six points from mostly running shots. But his most impressive work was carrying the ball down court and keeping the ball safe from defenders’ onslaught.

Brody Thompson is new to the Wildcats team and is gradually finding his confidence.

He scored two late goals to show he will be a key player come finals.

Alex Barnes is also showing tremendous improvement and a liking for scoring. He scored 8 points in Gators 14-10 win over Raptors.

Ashton Thompson again used his height well to post six points.

Toby Powles is new to basketball this term, but is showing he has plenty of potential.

He stepped up from the Grade 1-2 division to take on the big boys, and was still smiling after the experience.

Jack Perrella scored 8 points for Raptors and Lachie Rodriquez 2.

Wildcats remain undefeated in Grade 1-2 division after their 16-10 victory over Hornets.

Liam McInnes (6 points) and Jacob Cartwright (2) shot ‘em and Tyler Povey rebounded the misses and put the ball in the hoop to score 8 points.

For Hornets, Brody Wells scored 6 points and Cooper Wilson and Sebastian Grealy 2 each.

Raptors and Wildcats were victors in the Girls division.

Charlotte Freemantle scored 6 points for Wildcats and Ali Hall 10 points for Raptors to lead their respective teams to victory.

Basketball Kyabram’s Term Two competition continues next Monday at Kyabram Sports and Entertainment Centre from 6pm. Term Three team entries are now being taken for all competitions.
