Benalla Rural City Council has awarded $76666 to 45 community groups and event organisers in its annual Community Support Program.
Successful recipients were announced at a presentation event at the Sir Edward Weary Dunlop Learning Centre on Thursday, June 7.
Mayor Don Firth said the Community Support Program demonstrated council support for community-based growth through projects and activities.
‘‘The social and economic benefit to Benalla Rural City of these projects and events is immense,’’ Cr Firth said.
‘‘I commend and congratulate all the individuals and organisations who have taken the initiative to plan their projects and apply to the council for support.’’
Under the Community Support Program, the council allocates up to $64666 from the Community Grants Program and Youth Participation Grants and up to $12000 for major events.
Thirty-two not-for-profit community based organisations received funding of up to $2500 under the Community Grants Program for projects and activities that assist in building healthy, vibrant and sustainable communities across Benalla.
Three groups received funding of up to $1000 under the Youth Participation Grants program for youth-led projects that are driven and delivered by young people for young people.
Ten event organisers received funding of up to $1500 under the Major Event Funding program for events that provide measurable economic benefit and enhance the image and liveability of Benalla Rural City.
