Former AFL star Justin Koschitzke was a headline attraction for the Berrigan Football Club on Saturday.

The 200 game St Kilda player lined up for the Saints’ reserves in the Picola & District League round 10 clash against Rennie.

Berrigan reserves coach Damon Ferguson lured the 197cm tall forward to play for his side on the weekend while he was at his home town of Brocklesby for the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.

‘‘I went to school with Justin in Corowa and we’re still great mates,’’ Ferguson said.

‘‘Another mate of mine, Matt Feuerherdt, was also around so we decided to take the opportunity to play footy together.

‘‘We hadn’t played alongside each other since high school so it was a bit of a novelty.

‘‘Justin was the best man at my wedding so we’re still quite close.’’

It was a familiar site for the 2001 AFL Rising Star winner, donning the red, white and black guernsey, playing up forward and pinch hitting in the ruck throughout the day.

Koschitzke had an impressive return of four goals to help steer the Saints to a 63 point win.

‘‘We would’ve won by more if Kosi didn’t miss his first three shots at goal,’’ Ferguson said with a laugh.

‘‘Getting a big win was good but it was also great for the club, especially the juniors.

‘‘I had a few thirds boys putting their hands up to play in the twos and while we probably had enough players I decided to let them.

‘‘It was a good opportunity for them to play alongside a former AFL player.

‘‘Justin didn’t turn down the idea of playing for us again, but for now it was a bit of a one off game for him.’’
