Ky lets a chance slip

By Holly Tregenza

A STRONG third quarter from Mansfield left Kyabram A-graders lamenting another defeat this week, with strong defensive pressure from the Eagles proving too much for the Bombers.

Although Ky managed to keep up with their opponents for the first two terms and come into half time with the scores level, Mansfield came out firing in the third and produced a stunning six-goal lead.

Ky managed to even the goal-scoring back in the fourth, the damage was done.

Coach Sara Kent said that though she was happy with her side’s start, it was Mansfield’s grit and quality in all four quarters that won them the game.

‘‘We had some great defensive pressure from Ash Mangan, which really kept us in the game,’’ she said.

‘‘Equally, the Mansfield defence was really great and saw lots of turnovers.

‘‘Ultimately, four strong quarters from Mansfield lost us the game.’’

Awards went to Ash Mangan and Emma Ryan.

It wasn’t all heartbreak though, with the Bombers’ Under 17 side winning 43-42, after 14 goals in the last quarter. Molly Carver, Ebony Arnold and Courtney Mason led the fightback.

The Under 15 side weren’t so lucky, drawing 47-47.
