Chance to help kids

By McIvor Times

BUNBUNARIK Children’s Hub was visited by a delegation of Kiwanis members including their Australian governor, Bob Sitters, on April 17. Kiwanis International, of which the Australian operation and Bendigo branch are a part, was established in 1915 in the United States.

Kiwanis is the world’s second oldest and third largest service organisation. Its mission is to make a difference in the lives of children.

Mr Sitters and members of the Bendigo branch visited the Children’s Hub to gain an understanding of the variety of services and programs that will be provided through the new facility.

The Bendigo Kiwanis assisted Bunbunarik on a voluntary basis prior to its opening. They gifted the wonderful book box libraries that are now situated throughout the town.

Mr Sitter said he was amazed at what has been achieved in such a short period of time. As such Kiwanis invited Heathcote to create its own branch.

Can you help set up Bunbunarik Kiwanis Heathcote?

Bunbunarik Kiwanis Heathcote will be a charitable foundation that will act as the funding arm of Bunbunarik. It will provide grant funding for projects, initiatives and programs to improve the health and wellbeing of local children, especially those disadvantaged and in need.

Funding will also be available for all groups and organisations whose focus is on educating, nurturing and protecting Heathcote’s children.

Bunbunarik Kiwanis is calling for foundation members of the Heathcote branch, which costs $50. These funds are retained by Bunbunarik Kiwanis to give the branch a kick start, while they explore ways of obtaining grants and fundraising.

There is a small team of young people who have volunteered as committee members. They will oversee branch governance and management. The committee will be mentored by HCCSA representatives and Bendigo Kiwanis members.

While members are invited from the local community, anyone with an interest in the wellbeing and development children of Heathcote is welcome to join.

Ultimately Bunbunarik Kiwanis seeks support and commitment from the local community, to “improve the world one child and one community at a time in an atmosphere of fun and friendship”. This is the Kiwanis International philosophy.
