The women enjoyed ideal conditions for their weekly social bowls last Tuesday.

At the conclusion of the pairs encounter, the winning team was Anne Lowrie and Lois Chugg (s) in a devastating display of bowls scoring 15-1 and 10-8 victories.

In the midweek pennant the women returned home from Elmore in a happy mood after defeating the home side 75-48 with three rinks up.

The weekend pennant resulted in a win for the division four team against Rochester, while the division two squad lost to Rochester.

Division two had just the one rink up in the 74-81 loss.

G Browne 32-25; G Turner l.t. P Holzer 21-30; J Harris l.t. B Jones 21-26.

Division four retained third position on the ladder with a 87-58 victory and all three rinks up.

B Musgrove d. D Murray 35-11; G Shawcross d. G Prince 29-18; N Haines l.t. C Usher 23-29 after trailing by 15 shots mid-way through the contest.

The club championship has reached the quarter-final stage.

Phillip Cunnington defeated Neil Haines in a classic game while Graham Turner defeated Roly Head.

Reigning champion Ray Hanson just survived his match against Don Isgro in the attempt to retain his title.

In the game, Isgro was leading 24-23 and Hanson was holding two shots for game with Isgro having the final bowl.

The situation was tense as Isgro delivered the bowl - woe betide, the bowl was on the wrong bias.

Hanson winning the game 25-24.

Frank Chugg had a walkover from Chris Stewart.

The quarter final draw is - P Cunnington v. F Chugg, K Main v. R Hanson, T Davis v. R Shawcross, G Turner v. B Musgrove.

Games to be completed shortly as the closing date for the CVBD Champions of Champions is December 27 with the play-offs on Saturday January 5 2019.

During the week the team comprising Pauline Humbert, Lois Chugg, Phylis Macfarlane and Kath Palmer (s) competed in the CVBD State Fours and tried to replicate their effort in finishing runner up last year.

However, this was not to be as they were challenged by some very strong opposition on the day.

The Melissa Robert’s rink from Moama, who won the Divison and Regional final last year, won the section only to be defeated by the Elmore team of L Wilson, I Heywood, A Williams and E Locke (s) in the final.

The Elmore rink will represent the CVBD in the Regional play-off.

On the local tournament scene David Lupton, Tom Davis and Russell Shawcross (s) competed in the Stanhope Triples event.

After winning the first three games in convincing fashion, all the drama unfolded in the final game.

Trailing 4-9, the team rallied to lead by one shot on the last end.

As the end played out the team were holding one shot when the skipper delivered his final bowl, only to push an opposition bowl in for shot to draw the game.

Such is bowls.

The club thanked the many members for volunteering to assist with recent working-bees in the installation of the new ditch on the front green and the scaraffiering and maintenance of the top section of the green.

Many hands make light work.

The members enjoyed a deligthful meat and salad in leiu of the weekly barbeque.

The lucky members draw was Betty Mustey, who was absent on the night.


Weekend Pennant

On December 1 Colbinabbin hosted Mooroopna Golf (change of venue).

Colbinabbin 62 def Mooroopna Golf Bowls 58 with Ramon Rathjen 27 def Robert Brent 15, Greg Chandler 13 lost to John Firmer 29 and Shane Ryan 22 def Maree Mellino 14, keeping finals in their sight.

Midweek Pennant

Colbinabbin travelled to Seymour and found the synthetic tricky.

Robyn Weeks 21 lost to Margaret Ryan 26 and Di Chandler 19 lost to Jan McCarty 25.

Names for Christmas breakup to be given to Robyn Weeks or Di Chandler as soon as possible thanks.

Championship matches well under way with men playing semi finals this coming Thursday.
