Third COVID-19 case for Benalla Rural City Council

Benalla Rural City Council has its third positive case of COVID-19.

The additional case was confirmed by the state's health department today.

No details of where the person resides in the area, or their prior movements has been released.

The Department of Health and Human Services announced a woman in her seventies who had the virus died yesterday in hospital.

No details of where the woman is from have been released.

The number of COVID-19 cases in the state has risen to 1,036, and 193 are located in regional Victoria.

The Victorian Chief Health Officer said more than 100 of these cases were healthcare workers.

There are currently 36 people in hospital being treated for the virus, including two at Goulburn Valley Health.

Six are in intensive care, and 422 have recovered.

The ages of confirmed cases range from babies to a person in their early nineties.

More than 49,000 tests have been conducted, and a number are still under investigation.
