Cobram Primary School ready to perform Ali Baba and the Bongo Bandits

By Dylan Arvela

The countdown is on to Cobram Primary School's performance of Ali Baba and the Bongo Bandits.

The performance, on Thursday, September 19, involves more than 45 Year 5 and 6 students in some capacity, be it performing or working backstage.

Ali Baba and the Bongo Bandits, a musical comedy written by British composer and writer Craig Hawes, is a treasure-trove of fun and laughter.

Production organiser Cassie Ryan said the students had been putting a lot of time and effort into making sure everything goes well.

“We have put in hours and hours of practice,” she said.

“The students have been practising every afternoon and we have got some full days of practice coming up as well.”

The night is set to be an all-school event with students from Prep to Year 4 singing a song before the main event at 7 pm.

Ms Ryan said it is something the students are really looking forward to.

“The production happens every two years and it is something the students work towards and really enjoy,” she said.

“They are really looking forward to it and it is going to be a great night.

“The script is written by Craig Hawes, who is a really funny writer, and there are a lot of jokes in the show for young and old, so I encourage everyone to come along.”

It is the first time Ms Ryan has organised the show and said putting on the production has required the support of the entire school.

“Co-ordinating everything it a really big job, but I am definitely not doing it all by myself,” she said.

“I have Bre Flanagan who is my teaching partner, as well as Paul McCallum, have been helping me with props as well as all the backstage work.

“The whole staff have really got behind it so it is really good to have their support.”

Ali Baba and the Bongo Bandits is on Thursday, September 19, at the Cobram Civic Centre.

Tickets are available from Cobram Primary School’s front office at a cost of $7 for adults, $4 for children and $20 for a family (two adults and three children).
