Another action packed week at the Barooga Bowls Club

By Cobram Courier

Last week's question: What happens if a bowl is struck by another bowl during the course of play and splits into pieces?

Answer: If a bowl that has been struck another bowl during the course of play splits into pieces, the end must be declared dead.

This week's question: If a player leaves the green with the permission of the opposition team how long can the player stay off the green?

At last bowlers were able to get back to pennant play on Saturday, although the heat rule meant no play for midweek pennant again. This coming week the weather look okay.

Two important wins were achieved on weekend with division one defeating top side Wunghnu and division three also defeating Wunghnu, which was just above Barooga in the four.

Unfortunately division two lost by two shots to Nathalia and division four lost to Strathmerton.

Division one and two sit in third position on the ladder. Division three is now fairly secure in fourth position and division four is second, so all in all this is very good for the club with only three rounds to go.

Practice for all teams is today so, if at all possible, you are requested to attend practice and if possible in your team.

There are fewer rabbits around Barooga lately with “Ferret” proudly declaring his win in the Murray pairs event with his partner in crime “Mitch”. Well done to these two and may the rabbits remain clear of the Barooga green.

After all the heat we have had, rain of all things on the first round of social bowls for 2020 for the women, meant only six ends were able to be played. Winners were Elaine Blizzard, Betty Oldham, and Phyllis Escott. Next week social bowls is an aggregate.

The club minor singles draw has been completed. Thank you to those who entered. Markers are needed for the first round on January 20. Please contact the committee if you are available to mark.
