Marcus Fraser Classic this weekend

By Robert Muir

“We are overwhelmed with the numbers competing considering it’s a week later this year and because of the bushfires,” chief organiser of this year’s eighth annual Marcus Fraser Ambrose at Corowa Golf Club, Shaun Whitechurch told The Free Press.

“Many golfers are back at work but are still coming back to our course for this weekend.

“And the course is looking superb, our curator has nursed the course through the hot weather. “

Popularly known as ‘Magro’, the organiser said there has been a lot of talk about the line-up of speakers for Saturday night’s sporting auction.

The star-studded line-up of six guest speakers will cover the sports of horse racing, boxing, cricket, golf and netball.

Winning Melbourne Cup jockey Greg Hall, national boxing champions Barry Michael and John McCubbin, Australian Test Cricket opening bowler Rodney Hogg, Victorian Golf Hall of Famer Louise Briers and Corowa’s much decorated netball coach Georgia Bruce will be put to the question/answer style of Magro.

“I’m thrilled with the line-up of speakers,” he said. “It will be another knock-out Saturday night with this great list of high level achievers.”

The night is open to the public. Admission is free. These speakers will provide wonderful insights into their journeys to the top.

Corowa Golf Club is so grateful to major sponsor Mizuno and local sponsors Buller Wines, and Corowa Travel Link.

Corowa Golf Club Chief Executive Officer Daniel Peacock acknowledged the event’s significance. “It’s our largest annual golf event which continues to grow,” he said.

“It’s so important to our golf club financially and profile. The whole community, especially the board, management and staff are so grateful to be able to use Marcus’s brand.”
