Junior teams one win away from the big dance

SEVERAL junior teams are a step closer to the ultimate success after scoring big wins in the Shepparton and District Junior Football League finals series at the weekend.

In the under 14s, the Echuca Murray Bombers pushed Shepparton United Red aside by 17 points to book their place in a preliminary final.

Tom Evans led the way with three goals with Harrison Milburn named best afield.

Echuca's youth girls team have also earned a preliminary final birth after beating twin town rivals Moama by 42 points.

Rylea De Merlo led the way for the Bottle Green as they prepare for a clash with Shepparton Notre.

Echuca's under 16 division one team remains alive despite a 83-point loss against Shepparton, having earned a double chance during the home and away season.

They will now meet Shepparton Swans for a place in the grand final.

Moama's under 16 division two team moved through to the preliminary final following a 52-point victory over Echuca.

Lachlan Hewes and Ryan Simmons proved pivotal with four goals apiece.

They will face off against Echuca United who suffered a 147-point thumping at the hands of Tatura.
