St Barbara managing director and chief executive Bob Vassie is retiring and will be replaced at the ASX-listed gold miner by Newcrest's Craig Jetson.
St Barbara on Friday said Mr Vassie would step down after five and a half years to spend more time with his family, with Mr Jetson joining on February 3 for a month-long handover.
Mr Jetson was most recently executive general manager of Newcrest's global technical services, and was responsible for the Cadia gold mine in NSW and the Lihir Island operations in PNG.
Newcrest said in August Mr Jetson was being replaced by Craig Jones, but would stick around until the end of 2019 to help with the transition.
In a separate announcement, Newcrest said it had acquired a further 4.9 per cent stake in Lundin Gold Inc from Kinross Gold Corporation for about $79.6 million, increasing its ownership to 32 per cent.
Meanwhile, rival Northern Star announced it had completed its takeover of Echo Resources, having spent $193 million to buy the shares it did not already own.
